1st Steps to Using the Law Library

Help with using the catalog systems used by the law school and university as well as how to hunt for ebooks. The emphasis is on law materials.

Interdisciplinary Research

Because legal research increasingly involves interdisciplinary research, we have created the following page.  However, we cannot possibly list all of the possible subjects with which law may intersect.  The main library, Miller Nichols Library (MNL), posts all of its library guides at https://libguides.library.umkc.edu/.

Business

There are a variety of business and entrepreneurship databases and platforms on campus.  A select few have already been included on the law library's databases page.  For more in depth and comprehensive research, we recommend using the MNL research guide, Business & Entrepreneurship, by MNL Business Librarian Matt Lutt.  You should feel to contact him.  We are also happy to interface with him on your behalf.

Health Sciences

Health Sciences

Health sciences include major search platforms for medicine, nursing, and psychiatry.  See https://libguides.library.umkc.edu/healthsciences.  This is just one of several relevant guides.  Please don't hesitate to contact librarian Cynthia Flanagan, who specializes in Health Science.

PubMed

Citations to evidence-based biomedical articles from medical practice and research. Many entries include links full articles.

CINAHL

Nursing, Allied Health, and biomedical articles, offers complete coverage of English-language nursing journals.

PsycINFO

Psychology articles, books, and dissertations.

Social Science & Economics

Law often overlaps with sociology and economics.  The MNL sociology site is located at https://libguides.library.umkc.edu/sociology. Economics is located at https://libguides.library.umkc.edu/economics. Julie Hartwell is the MNL librarian tasked with sociology, as well as economics .
