1st Steps to Using the Law Library

Help with using the catalog systems used by the law school and university as well as how to hunt for ebooks. The emphasis is on law materials.

Use of eBooks

We subscribe to thousands of eBooks, including law topics through ProQuest Ebooks Central on our library's databases page. Other databases such as HeinOnline and Gale Digital Collections have historical collections of eBooks.  Many eBooks are located in the catalog, which you should search with the UMKC Law School as the default setting. However, due to staff shortages, records in the online MERLIN catalog are not currently updated to to reflect what the current holding in ProQuest Ebooks Central are. Consequently, use of the database for ProQuest Ebooks is the preferred method of access. Due to budget limitations at the law library, access to law titles in ProQuest Ebooks is limited to law faculty and students.

Student Study Aids

As a result of the student library fee, the library has acquired two platforms to help students in their courses. They include LexisNexis Digital Library and West Academic Study Aids. Both of these platforms can be found on the library databases page. For more information, see this guide with more information about our available Study Aids
