Digital Scholarship Services

Create UMKC provides an easy-to-use hosting platform for faculty’s digital projects in state-of-the-field content management applications. Create UMKC is a three year pilot supported by a Funding for Excellence grant from the Office of Research Services.

Services offered through Create UMKC are not meant for faculty profiles and departmental or class websites. UMKC IS provides support for these types of pages. Department or class websites are available through WordPress. Faculty profile sites are available through OpenScholar. 

• This service will provide faculty with access to flexible web space and customizable hosting platforms including Omeka, Scalar, and WordPress to showcase their research.
• Sharing faculty scholarship and creative works on a Create Digital UMKC site can increase the impact of your research and extend the reach of your ideas.
• If you leave the University, Reclaim will help you migrate your site to another hosting platform.
• Sites can be used to create:

  • Proof of concept sites for pending grant applications

  • Digital exhibits

  • Book supplements or companion websites

  • Expansive or interactive digital scholarship projects

  • Non-linear or multimedia-rich scholarly publications

Create UMKC sites cannot be used for:

• Departmental websites including research centers/clusters and institutes 
  • Department or class websites are available through WordPress, with UMKC Information Services.
• Faculty or graduate student profiles or other personal websites 
  • Faculty profile sites are available through OpenScholar, with UMKC Information Services.
• Lab websites 
• Student assignments 
• Faculty-led public writing sites

All Create UMKC sites must follow standards for digital accessibility. Learn more about digital accessibility and why it's important with these resources. Check out the UM Digital Accessibility Policy for more information. The Create UMKC team can consult on accessibility issues with your Create UMKC site, but it is ultimately the responsibility of the end user to ensure that their site is accessible.
