UMKC University Libraries Digital Collaboration Studio

Students, staff, and faculty can reserve the Seminar Room for two-hour time blocks. The Seminar Room is not available as a space for faculty office hours, or for classes to meet on a permanent basis.

The Seminar Room is for groups of five or more, and priority will be given for faculty use. The Seminar Room can be reserved for 2 hours per group per day.

This space is designated a Quiet Conversation Area.

Getting Started in the Seminar Room

The Seminar Room includes a 76-inch display that can also be used as a whiteboard. The room has a wireless keyboard and mouse connected to a PC that can be used with a UMKC login. You can also connect a laptop to the display using an HDMI connection or wirelessly through VIA.

How to Connect Your Laptop to the Display

  1. Make sure the display is turned on.
  2. Connect the HDMI cable to your laptop.
  3. Put the control panel into Laptop mode.
  4. If it doesn't work, check if the display is set to HDMI 1.

How to Use the Computer in the Room

  1. Put the control panel into PC mode.
  2. Login to the PC with your UMKC ID and password.

Using the webcam

The webcam can only be used with the in-room PC. 

  1. To use the webcam with apps like Zoom or Microsoft Teams, select the Logitech MeetUp option in your video settings and the Echo Cancelling Speakerphone (Logitech Meetup) option in your audio settings.
  2. The room includes a Logitech remote that can be used to control the webcam manually.
    • The directional pad in the middle can be used to move the camera. 
    • The webcam is a smart one and will tend to move and zoom in and out on its own. 
    • Use the +/- options on the remote to manually zoom in and out. 
    • Hitting the home button will reorient the camera.
  3. Volume can be controlled by the remote, the PC or the Extron control panel. Users can mute their audio using their laptop or use a headset or earbuds to keep from disturbing others in the space.

Using the Mosaic whiteboard

If the whiteboard (the display) is not on Mosaic already, use one of the stylus pens to select > in the lower left corner, then select the home icon. Select MosaicCanvas to use the display as a traditional whiteboard. MosaicConnect and Files are not available. 

Saving Mosaic whiteboard files to USB thumb drive

If you need to save content from the Mosaic whiteboard, you will need to save it to a USB thumb drive that you can plug into the lower right corner of the display. 

  1. Plug in your USB thumb drive in the lower right corner of the display.
  2. First, save the whiteboard file by opening the menu in the lower left corner of the display and selecting Save As.
  3. Name the file and save it in the Documents folder. The file format is mws.
  4. Then exit the whiteboard by opening the menu in the lower left corner and selecting Exit. 
  5. On the Mosaic home screen, select Files.
  6. You should see Storage and USB on the left.
  7. In Storage, double tap Documents to open that folder and then select your file.
  8. Click on the ... and then Send to the USB.
  9. When you are done, unplug your USB thumb drive from the display.
  10. Go back to Storage and delete your files.
