The Three Centuries of Drama collection consists of 26 boxes of microcards that contain the texts of plays from 1500 to 1830. Records of the individual plays are available in the library catalog. This LibGuide will help you to request the right microcard box once you have identified a play that you need.
The boxes are grouped intro the following:
- Box 1-5: English (1500-1641)
- Box 6-9: English (1641-1700)
- Box 10-13: English (1701-1750)
- Box 14-22: English (1751-1800)
- Box 23-24: Larpent Collection (1737-1800)
- Box 25-26: American (1714-1830)
The plays in each box are arranged alphabetically by the author's last name. So the trick is to identify the group and the author and then request the box for that group that would include that author. An example is below.
Catalog record for Altorf by Frances Wright
In this example, you can see that the play, "Altorf" was written by Frances Wright. The first Series Title will indicate which group. In this case, the group is American (1714-1830).
Once you know the author and the group, you can go to the Three Centuries of Drama record and request the needed box from RooBot. You may need to click the "View additional copies..." button to see all the box you need. In this example, you would be requesting box 26.
