Workshop Series: Using the Search Bar

The law library will be hosting workshops throughout the year to help students develop stronger legal research skills. Next week, the first installment of this workshop series will take place. Two in-person sessions will be offered to accommodate student schedules. Both sessions will contain the same content. Details about the workshops can be found below.

Search Strategies: Using the Search Bar

Description

During a fifty-minute session, attending students will have the opportunity to learn about and practice various search strategies on Lexis and Westlaw. The workshop will include discussion of plain language searching, Boolean operators, and terms & connectors searching. The workshop will provide students with the necessary knowledge and resources to more efficiently perform legal research.

Details

Workshop #1 (RSVP REQUIRED)

  • Date: Wednesday, March 15th
  • Time: 12:10-1:00PM
  • Location: Tech Room (ground floor of the law library)
  • Additional Details: This will be a Lunch & Learn session and is limited to 20 attendees. Pizza will be provided. Students must RSVP by 12:00PM on Tuesday, March 14th.
    NOTE: If you have dietary restrictions, please email Ariel Newman at newmanam@umkc.edu by the deadline so that the law library can seek accommodations.

Workshop #2

  • Date: Thursday, March 16th
  • Time: 3:30-4:20PM
  • Location: Stoup Courtroom
  • Additional Details: Light refreshments will be provided on a first come, first served basis.

 

Please direct all questions regarding the workshops and registration to our Student Services Librarian, Ariel Newman. Note that both workshops are in-person only and will not be recorded. The law library will be working to upload instructional videos at a later date.
