The University of Missouri-Kansas City Suicide Prevention Training Program was designed to help faculty, staff, and students prevent suicide by teaching you to:

identify people at risk for suicide
recognize the risk factors, protective factors, and warning signs of suicide
respond to and get help for people at risk

This program takes about 20 minutes to complete. It is intended to be educational rather than therapeutic, and it must be completed in one sitting. Logging in and out of the program may cancel your progress and prevent you from obtaining your certificate of completion.

The RESPOND training will empower you to offer effective support to a student or colleague experiencing mental health problems.

RESPOND is an 8-hour training offered at no cost to UMKC faculty and staff (if you attend) thanks to the generous support from the Curators of the University of Missouri System and the UMKC Vice Provost for Student Affairs.

Training is from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and includes lunch. Contact Dr. Teresa Huff-Pomstra at huffpomstrat@umkc.edu or 816-235-5248 with questions. At this time, RESPOND trainings are only open to UMKC faculty, staff and graduate students employed in a graduate assistantship. Registration is limited for each training so please register early.
