    The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) is committed to providing consumers with up-to-date information and resources to protect and manage their finances during this difficult time as the situation evolves.

    Independence Residents Utility Assistance

    Funds can be used to cover past due bills between March 1 and August 31, 2020. Utility bills for electricity, water and sewer are eligible for payment assistance. Spire gas bills are not eligible for payment under this program, except for residents of federally-supported housing, where utility disconnections are grounds for eviction. Must be a resident living in the City of Independence and a customer of City of Independence Utilities - electricity, water, or sewer. Must also have past due bills that cannot be paid due to financial hardship.
