The Gay and Lesbian Archive of Mid-America (GLAMA) Collection was established in 2009, as part of a larger initiative to collect, preserve, and make accessible the documents and artifacts that reflect the histories of the LGBT communities in the Kansas City region. The GLAMA name continues to serve as a designation for the department's growing library of cataloged material in this subject area, as documented in the UMKC Library Catalog. The collection comprises thousands of fiction and non-fiction books, including hundreds of imprints from Naiad Press; dozens of periodicals of local interest as well as regional, national and international serials; and dozens of sound recordings covering musical and spoken-word performances that are housed in the Marr Sound Archives.
