The Z Collection was initially curated by Dr. Kenneth J. LaBudde (Director of Libraries from 1950 to 1985 and namesake of LaBudde Special Collections) and covers fine printing and the book arts, literature, architecture, and landscape design. The collection was so named because originally it was shelved at the end of the Snyder Collection of Americana. The Z Collection name continues to serve as a designation for the department's growing library of cataloged material in this subject area, as documented in the UMKC Library Catalog. The collection comprises thousands of titles, including rare and limited-edition books, fine-press imprints, artists' books, literary classics, and other works in the humanities.
