The Map and Atlas Collection consists of originals and reproductions dating from the 1500s to the present. The bulk of the collection covers greater Kansas City and surrounding environs; other areas of the United States and from around the world are represented as well. Included are topographic, railway and territory surveys. Maps are housed indivdually in flat file cabinets and are assigned a drawer number and a map number: Kansas City Metro Area (drawers 1-3), Kansas (drawers 5-7), Missouri (drawers 8-10), United States / State / Territory Surveys (drawers 11-12), Indigenous ("Indian") Territory Surveys (drawer 13), World (drawer 14). Atlases are bound and shelved within LaBudde Special Collections' rare book collection and are assigned a Library of Congress call number.
