Environmental Data Initiative (EDI) Data Portal
The EDI Data Portal contains environmental and ecological data packages contributed by a number of participating organizations. Data and metadata derived from publicly funded research are made available through this website with as few restrictions as possible, and on a non-discriminatory basis. In return, EDI expects users of data to act ethically by contacting the data provider prior to using it in any published research.
Global Biotic Interactions (GloBI)
Global Biotic Interactions (GloBI) provides open access to finding species interaction data (e.g., predator-prey, pollinator-plant, pathogen-host, parasite-host) by combining existing open datasets using open source software.

GloBI continuously scans existing data infrastructures and registries and tracks the species interactions data they make available. Found species interaction data are then resolved and integrated. So, rather than being a giant centralized repository of species interaction data, GloBI is more of a search index that helps to find existing species interaction datasets in their native cyber-habitat.
Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF)
GBIF is an international network and data infrastructure funded by the world's governments and aimed at providing anyone, anywhere, open access to data about all types of life on Earth.

Publishers provide open access to their datasets using machine-readable Creative Commons licence designations, allowing scientists, researchers and others to apply the data in about four peer-reviewed publications (along with more policy papers) every day. Many of these analyses—which cover topics from the impacts of climate change and the spread of invasive and alien pests to priorities for conservation, food security and human health—would not be possible without the data provided by the GBIF network.
Knowledge Network for Biocomplexity (KNB)
The KNB was launched in 1998 with the purpose of being the long term home for synthesis datasets and research products generated by National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis (NCEAS) working groups. Since then, NCEAS has continued to operate the KNB not only as an archive for NCEAS working group products, but also for the broader ecology and environmental science community.

Due to rich contextual information provided with KNB data, scientists are able to integrate and analyze data with less effort. The data originate from a highly-distributed set of field stations, laboratories, research sites, and individual researchers.
National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON)
NEON is a National Science Foundation (NSF) continental-scale observation facility operated by Battelle and designed to collect long-term open access ecological data to better understand how U.S. ecosystems are changing.

Ocean Biodiversity Information System (OBIS)
A UNESCO project, OBIS is a global open-access data and information clearing-house on marine biodiversity for science, conservation and sustainable development. More than 20 OBIS nodes around the world connect 500 institutions from 56 countries. Collectively, they have provided over 45 million observations of nearly 120 000 marine species, from Bacteria to Whales, from the surface to 10 900 meters depth, and from the Tropics to the Poles.
