Evaluating Sources

The Internet has tons of good stuff, but it is also full of unreliable or questionable information. Before you use a website for research purposes, be sure to consider the following:

  • Currency - Is the information up to date?

  • Relevance - Does the information meet your need?

  • Authority - Is the source trustworthy?

  • Accuracy - Is the information correct?

  • Purpose - Why was the website created? Is there a bias?

For more information on evaluating information, use Evaluating Information - Applying the CRAAP Test from Meriam Library at California State University, Chico.
