Searching for Alternatives  

This guide has been developed to help Principal Investigators (PI) in completing the literature searches in Section III and Section VI of the UMKC IACUC protocol form.

The tab, Background, gives information about the need for the literature search in developing a protocol, and some resources to explore.

The Section III tab provides information about developing a search to ensure no duplication of research is proposed by the PI. This must be considered for every protocol.

The tab called Section VI explains the need to do the "alternative search" for animals covered by the Animal Welfare Act and protocols that will be classified a Pain Level D or E.

The Databases tab has links to resources to use to run your searches.

The tab entitled Documentation provides instructions on what type of support you need to provide to show how the searches were done.

The News tab provides RSS feeds from AWIC, AltWeb and OLAW.

The For More Help tab will link you to other resources to support you in doing these searches.
