Subject terms used in the library catalog can help you focus your search to a particular place at a particular time.  You can also specify your search to look for particular types of material.  Here are some examples of the types of subject headings you might use.

History, Ancient
History, Ancient -- Bibliography
History, Ancient -- Historiography
Rome -- History -- Empire, 284-476
Greece -- History -- 281-146 B.C. -- Sources
Egypt-- History -- 332 30 B C

You don't have to know the exact way to write the subject term to search for it. Just search by words you want to see in the subject term.

Materials relevant to the study of specific aspects of medieval society and culture may also be found using subject headings such as:

Art, Classical
Latin Literature -- History and Criticism

Finally, materials relevant to the study of the work of a specific person may be found using subject headings such as:

Caesar, Julius
