President Choi recently shared with you information about the Affordable and Open Educational Resources (A&OER) Initiative. This collaborative systemwide effort addresses the rising costs of textbooks and other course materials. Reducing the cost of education benefits students both financially and pedagogically.
To recognize and support this effort, the A&OER Taskforce is launching a grant program that will provide funding to support faculty to incorporate lower cost materials into their courses. The grants are available for several different activities, including:
Adopting, adapting and/or creating open and affordable materials
Reviewing open textbooks
Mentoring faculty new to A&OER
Specific details of the program, including grant categories, selection criteria, requirements and application information, can be found on our website. If you have further questions, please contact us at email@example.com.
Academic freedom includes the right of faculty members to choose the educational resources used in courses, and the UM System remains committed to ensuring academic freedom. The grant program simply seeks to support those faculty interested in utilizing more affordable or open educational resources in their courses.
We have an opportunity to be statewide leaders in this initiative, and we appreciate your contributions to this exciting effort.
